Hypnosis Certification Organization

By hypnomark

Hypnosis Certification OrganizationsIt is not uncommon for someone to ask about this Hypnosis Certification Organization or that Hypnosis Certification Organization. Often the question involves a specific organization they have been told about by another hypnotist. There are many options when it comes to hypnosis training, many schools and many teachers. There are also different Hypnosis Certification Organizations as well. While I feel it is important to select the right instructor, it is important to be aware of the organization that will provide your certification as well.

I look at all certification in general from 2 different points of view, regardless of the type of certification you are seeking. First it provides a goal for learning enough to not only qualify to become certified but also to be able to do the work. In addition it provides credibility to those who seek your expertise to be sure they are comfortable working with you. Again this applies to any sort of certification such as massage therapy, computer networking or hypnotherapy.

Speaking more specifically about hypnosis certification, it is important that you are certified with a Hypnosis Certification Organization that has been around for a number of years and will be around in the future. One test I have discovered to determine if an organization cuts the mustard is to check on the availability of an annual conference and also to check the history of their conferences to discover how long they have been holding them. There’s additional information detail in the links below to other pages in this site.

When people get specific in asking about this organization or that organization it is usually because they have been told by someone that they need to join a specific organization, typically the person sharing this information is a member of the group they suggest, and that makes sense. It is a good thing to be proud of your affiliation with your own Hypnosis Certification Organization. It is also good to know something about the others as well, and I have found that many people have blinders on and do not know much if anything about the other organizations.

In my opinion the major hypnotherapy certification organizations all provide a service and benefits to their members, though some may have unique benefits in one area versus another. The preference of one organization to another may make a difference to the hypnotist, especially if it is the organization who has certified them, however it is very rare for a client to make a choice based on the certification organization. They typically know very little about hypnosis, much less the alphabet soup names such as ACHE, IMDHA, IACT or NGH.

What matters to the client is that you are certified by a major organization, in other words they are looking for credibility. As long as you have the training and expertise to assist them along with the credibility that comes with a certification, there is really not a big difference between one Hypnosis Certification Organization or another to the client.

While I am not a Certified Instructor with NGH, it is my understanding that they, as well as the other hypnotherapy certification organizations, will grandfather you into their organization as long as your training meets the minimum requires in terms of classroom hours. This is usually reviewed on a case by case basis, but I know I was accepted in NGH back in 2008 based on my background. I also work closely with the IACT/IMDHA certification department and it is my understanding that this is how they make decisions on granting certification to people trained elsewhere.

My initial certification was with the American Council of Hypnotist Examiners, ACHE. I maintain that one since it was where I started. I am a Certified Master Trainer and a Certified Hypnotherapist with IACT as well. I joined NGH when I went to their conference back in 2008, that was a huge conference. These days the big conference everyone is talking about is called Hypnothoughts LIVE which is held in Las Vegas every August. I was a speaker at the IACT conference in 2017 and plan to speak there and at Hypnothoughts next year.

Mark Johnson IACT 2016 Educator of the Year

By hypnomark

IACT 2016 Educator of the YearEvery year at the International Association of Counselors and Therapists (IACT) annual conference they present various awards to members for different reasons. This year IACT presented Certified Master Trainer Mark Johnson the 2016 Educator of the Year Award in recognition of Excellence in Communication and Outstanding Performance.

Mark took advantage of his Master of Music degree and spent 12 years teaching group piano, keyboard and organ lessons. While he began learning hypnosis in 2003, he had the opportunity to watch his father hypnotized people as far back as the 1960’s. With that background in mind, hypnosis and teaching are nothing new for Mark.

In 2010 he began traveling to offer hypnotherapy sessions in a variety of locations in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Georgia and South Carolina. When Mark started teaching the following year he realized that his travels to offer sessions had created a network of connections that he now uses to teach his Basic and Advanced Hypnotherapy classes in 5 different locations.

In addition to learning from his father, Mark studied with the best of the best in terms of Hypnosis Instructors. He has attended classes with Gil Boyne, Ormond McGill, Randal Churchill and George Bien. In addition, Mark has attended advanced training with Brian Weiss, Michael Newton, David Quigley and Paul Aurand.

Like he does in his sessions, Mark brings all his knowledge and understanding into the classroom when he teaches. He has a extensive training, though he makes a point to explain that he also learns when he works with clients as well as when he teaches. It is important for Hypnotherapy students to understand that working with clients is like going to graduate school.

Basic and Advanced Hypnotherapy Training

By hypnomark

Our hypnotherapy students often attend hypnosis conferences after their initial training. The people they meet are often amazed at how much they were able to learn by attending my Basic and Advanced Hypnotherapy Training. This training includes advanced hypnosis techniques including parts therapy, regression, medical hypnosis, working with children as well as learning all about hypnotic suggestions and guided imagery techniques.

At a recent International Association of Counselors and Therapists conference in Daytona Beach, Mark was honored with the Educator of the Year award. While Mark was surprised to receive his award, his students were not surprised at all to discover that their teacher received this recognition.

During the Good Vibes Hypnosis Basic and Advanced Hypnotherapy Training, the information is presented at the most appropriate pace, meaning that we move quicker through things like the history of hypnosis, but spend more time focusing on the important techniques that will be used extensively when you begin working with clients. The days in your Hypnotherapy Training class are long but the class is presented in a relaxed atmosphere and we encourage the students to dress in casual clothes since we have found that people learn better when they can be more relaxed.

Starting in 2020, we began to offer out training online. This is more cost effective as it cuts down on travel expenses for the students who are out of town. In addition, it provides the opportunity for the students to get practical experience working with clients online. While it is easy for the online students to work with clients in person, those who learn in person are usually challenged when it comes to working online. Our online students can work with clients confidently both in person and online.

Although we typically follow a discussion, demonstration, hands on experience model in our Hypnotherapy Training, each day is filled with variety. This supervised practice sessions using the techniques just presented help the students to learn better than they would just reading a book. We also include video case histories presented by some of he best trainers of today and yesterday.

The day could be described as Hypnosis, Hypnosis, Hypnosis! Our classes are offered in a small group environment which means the students will be able to experience hypnosis as the client and the hypnotist and we often help our students with challenges in their life as part of the training. This might include the instructors working with a student, or another student working with a student. Either way we’ll be right there to make sure things go as they should.

I enjoy offering Hypnotherapy Training, my students are motivated to learn and that makes a big difference. It is quite a change from teaching piano classes like I was doing 25 years ago. I enjoy working with clients and would never give that up, but sharing what I have learned in years of training and hands on experience with my hypnotherapy students has made this work special to me in many ways.

Obtaining A Hypnotherapy Certification

By Admin

Young therapist working with patient on hypnosisHypnotherapy is the process of using hypnosis in combination with additional therapeutic processes to help a client deal with repressed memories, past traumas and subconscious beliefs. It takes a skilled hypnotherapist to uncover and interpret the subconscious mind accurately. Few people can perform these techniques using hypnosis with any kind of true skill without hypnotherapy training. That’s where a hypnotherapy certification course comes into the picture.

A hypnotherapy course trains the student to use hypnotism properly in their practices. There are different types of hypnotherapy and a good certification course will teach more than one. Becoming properly trained is a vital first step for a therapist who wants to make use of hypnosis; they can’t just start waving a watch in a client’s face and expect to see results! However, not everyone who is certified as a hypnotherapist has attended one of these courses.

On a side note, although the swinging watch referenced above is a common representation of hypnosis in movies, it is rather dated in the modern practice of hypnosis. Gone are the days of telling the client to “watch the watch”, though this is an example of the types of things people consider to be one of the common misconceptions about hypnosis people have when they decide to contact a hypnotist for a hypnosis session.

Different states and countries have varying definitions of what it means to be “certified” as a hypnotherapist. There is no one specific course a professional must attend to become a hypnotherapist. In many states, someone can practice as a hypnotherapist without any formal training at all. In others, only the word “therapist” is regulated, meaning the person must be certified as a mental health professional, but there is nothing controlling their training as a hypnotist. There are no legal or formal requirements, training, or certifications necessary to advertise as a hypnotist or practice hypnosis.

In the United States, one authority on certifications in hypnotherapy is the International Association of Counselors and Therapists (IACT). In order to qualify as certified on their list, a therapist must attend a hypnotherapy training course taught by one of their Certified Master Trainers or provide documentation of training elsewhere that meets the requirements for certification within IACT.

Certification classes are available in IACT schools around the world as well as at their annual hypnotherapy conference in Daytona Beach, Florida. The current requirements include 220 hours of hypnotherapy training and at least 110 of those hours are required to  be in the classroom. Being certified by the IACT means gaining recognition as a hypnotherapist within the profession, from the public, and from insurance companies.

There is also an organization known as the American Council of Hypnotist Examiners (ACHE) which is a large hypnotherapy organization for professional hypnotherapists who use hypnosis in clinical practice. Like the IACT,  ACHE provides training, workshops, and certifications to these professionals and also sponsors an annual hypnotherapy conference.

Organizations and schools that train certified hypnotherapists generally share a common goal: to increase the perceived and actual validity of the profession. Certifications give the public confidence in selecting a hypnotherapist, that they are paying money to an actual trained therapist and not just someone off the street who claims to know hypnosis. It also helps the practitioners to know that they are using the technique correctly and safely to help their clients, not harm them.

Hypnotherapy certification is not as straightforward as some other types of certification. There is no central source for these certifications, nor is there any set type or amount of training necessary to become a certified hypnotherapist. Each organization determines the requirements for their certifications, and some organizations, such as ACHE, offer different levels of certification depending on the total number of classroom hours of training. However, getting some kind of professional certification benefits a hypnotherapist. The hypnotherapist gets additional training and the knowledge that they are treating their clients to the best of their ability, and the client gets the peace of mind that they’ve hired an actual professional therapist.

Choosing The Right Hypnotherapy Training Course

By Admin

Illustration depicting a highway gantry sign with a new skills and training concept. Blue sky background.Individuals who have an interest in becoming a hypnotist should be aware of the hypnotherapy training courses available and what they entail. Below is a guideline of requests and questions that should be asked when making inquiries about these training courses.

Training Hours Offered

There are a variety of different hypnosis certifications available. One of the more basic ones is called a Master Hypnotist. While the certification title Master Hypnotist may sound impressive, this certification has been available in the past with as little as 50 hours of training. The training course for a Certified Hypnotherapist typically consists of a minimum of 200 hours and at least 100 of these hours should be conducted within an actual classroom.

About The Certification

Any reputable training institute will issue a certification once the course has been completed successfully in hypnotherapy training. This certification comes from hypnosis organizations that are internationally recognized and publish practitioner ethics, including associations such as the International Association of Counselors and Therapists (IACT) and the International Medical and Dental Hypnotherapy Association (IMDHA).

Hands On Training

In order to learn about hypnosis in a thorough manner, students will spend time experiencing and facilitating hypnosis sessions rather than merely listening to a number of lectures. Internationally recognized hypnotherapy organizations discourage correspondence, video or online courses and require additional classroom training before they provide certification, regardless of how many hours of non-classroom training have been undertaken.

That said, starting in 2020, Good Vibes Hypnosis Training started offering a new form of Online Hypnotherapy Training, Live Interactive Online Hypnotherapy Training. This is not about watching videos and reporting back when you are done, this is live interactive training that is actually no different than in person training.

The instructor is always present and using Zoom allows us to have online practice sessions during the training. This is an important part of learning hypnosis, getting hands on experience in supervised practice sessions. The students also learn how to hypnotize others online, which provides an additional benefit for the student in this day and age.

The Hypnosis Trainer

The primary teacher for hypnosis training should be the source of all the information received while on the course. For this reason students are encouraged to find out in advance who their instructor will be, as well as, an idea of the instructors knowledge and experience. Some hypnosis training courses include a primary and a secondary instructor, which provides the students with a additional opportunities to learn during live demos as well as during the supervised practice sessions.

Reviewing The Outline Of A Course

Students are encouraged to request an outline of what will be learned on the course. The outline should be thorough and cover essential topics that include: applications of hypnosis, history of hypnosis, guided imagery, suggestion management, regression techniques, and inductions.

Course Costs

Reputable instructors for hypnosis courses are always transparent about the costs involved. Students should expect to pay a fair price for their tuition fees. It is advisable to be wary when it comes to cheap tuitions or inflated fees. The general acceptable tuition fees for a certification in hypnosis around the US should range from $2,000 up to $3,000. Tuition varies depending on the length of the training as well as the content. Advanced training may be more expensive, though some schools offer reduced tuition for advanced training for their former students.

What Do The Costs Cover?

The recognized schools offers supplies, recordings, scripts, books along with beverages and snacks. It is important to realize that even small items have the ability to add up to a lot when they have not been included. Your instruction should include a clear and concise training manual with everything you need to learn hypnosis. Often additional reading will be ether suggested or required and some of these books may be included in the tuition. Check with the instructor so you are clear on what is and what is not included.

Hours Of Training

Certain organizations believe that training for hypnosis will only require a weekend. While other groups believe that more time is needed that will include an internship over a few months. It is essential for prospective students to discriminate between the two.

A balance that lies between these two is usually best. Experience has suggested that most students are more than capable of starting up the practice involved in hypnosis once they have completed a course of around 100 classroom hours. Some organizations have minimal requirements, though IACT and IMDHA, and the American Council of Hypnotist Examiners (ACHE), which are considered to be among the most respected international hypnosis organizations, recommends a total of at least 200 hours of training, with a minimum of 100-150 in the classroom.

Once receiving a certification in hypnosis, students embark on a lifelong and extremely enjoyable journey. Continuing and updated education is a general requirement from most of the certifying organizations. All of the reputable hypnotherapy organizations require the up keep of ongoing training for every type of hypnotist. Availability of additional training is also important to consider, especially if you have some goal in mind in terms of a specific area of focus and may seen advanced hypnotherapy training in the future.
